Conversation Project: Homeless in the Land of Plenty

Home is one of the most intimate places we can know. It’s a place that provides for and shapes our expression of security, identity, and even play. But an estimated 100 million people around the world lack shelter altogether, and as many as one billion lack adequate permanent housing. In the US, families with children are the fastest-growing segment of the homeless population. How does homelessness affect the lives of all people within a community? What does it mean for there to be masses of people who are not adequately housed?

This discussion is lead by Ryan Stroud and is made possible by funding from Oregon Humanities, which connects Oregonians to ideas that change lives and transform communities. More information about Oregon Humanities’ programs and publications, which include the Conversation Project, Think & Drink, Humanity in Perspective, Public Program Grants, Responsive Program Grants, and Oregon Humanities magazine, can be found at oregonhumanities.org. Oregon Humanities is an independent, nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities and a partner of the Oregon Cultural Trust.
