    Vancouver DACA Rally

SW LULAC and our FCRC rep Diana Avalos-Leos organized a save DACA rally at Ester Short park at 6 pm on Weds, August 30th.

Students under the protection of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals are holding their collective breath and hoping that DACA survives the current administration. They need this protection to have jobs, they need this protection to get financial aid for college. As educators, we know how important DACA is. When students have their status in jeopardy, it is much more difficult to engage them in school and get them invested in academia. Why give 100% in class when your entire future in this country is in jeopardy? We need to take action and raise our voice in defense of DACA. Governor Inslee signed in the REAL Hope Act (WA version of Dream Act) five years ago and some of my Dreamer students were able to meet with him and be present at the signing of the legislation.

Inslee wrote a great article that was picked up by CNN, here it is: http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/24/opinions/congress-protect-dreamers-inslee/index.html
