Screening of Bobby Sands: 66 Days (with DJs before and after)

    Cider Riot, 807 NE Couch

RASH NW and the Red and Black Subculture Club present: Bobby Sands: 66 Days

'I am standing on the threshold of another trembling world. May God have mercy on my soul.'

With these words, IRA volunteer Bobby Sands began his hunger strike on March 1st 1981.

Sands’ undoubted act of personal bravery brought Ireland to a standstill as the outside world looked on to see an intense battle unfold between an unseen prisoner and the might of the British Government.66 DAYS tells the factual story of Bobby Sands’ life for the first time on film.

As we step through the day-specific narrative, we reveal the man at the centre of events, in a probing personal portrait that separates man from myth, and fact from fiction. Seeing himself as a soldier in a conflict, Bobby Sands died for the right to be recognised as a political prisoner. He chose hunger strike, against the wishes of his movement’s leadership, in the full knowledge it would bring the world’s attention to his fight.

Before and after DJ Dispissed, Soul Survivor and Mcskally will play the best of Boss Reggae , Antifascist oi!, and Irish rebel tunes.

Screening of The Story Of Skinhead By Don Letts (With DJs After)
    Cider Riot, 807 NE Couch

RASH NW and the Red and Black Subculture Club present: The Story Of Skinhead by Don Letts

Documentary in which director and DJ Don Letts looks at a very particular and very provocative British subculture - skinhead. He explores how skinhead has become associated with street fighting, trouble on thefootball terraces and violent racism in the public consciousness in Britain and around the world, but reveals that its origins lie in a cultural coming together that could not be further from its tarnished image.

Don shows in fascinating detail how the roots of skinhead are in a brilliant cultural collision between the young white working-class kids and their Jamaican counterparts in British inner cities, a moment of multicultural harmony. He traces the history of skinhead from the late 60s to the present, looking at the music and styles of skinhead from the reggae-influenced ska to the punk-influenced Oi. Throughout Don meets people who were committed members of various skinhead scenes, and he considers the conflicts and the contradictions that skinhead has attracted over five decades.

Afterwards DJ Dispissed and Soul Survivor will play the best of Boss Reggae, Two Tone, and Antifascist Oi!

The City doesn’t have enough resources to ensure our houseless population don’t suffer from the potentially fatal effects of our harsh winter weather. The Montavilla NAC (Neighborhood Action Council) which is part of Portland Assembly will be running a volunteer community led warming shelter for the second time this year. RASH will be teaming up with the Montavilla NAC to help get much needed supplies for the warming shelter. If you are interested in volunteering your time or want to cook a meal please email, montavillanac@protonmail.com. Thanks for supporting your local community!

Celebrate Defeating Nestle and Meet Bark's New Director

What a breath of fresh air to have something to celebrate! Have you taken a moment to savor the victory of our concerted grassroots effort to stop one of the most powerful corporations in the world?

Join the Bark community on Tuesday, November 28th from 5-8pm for an evening of celebration, storytelling and community joyfulness!

That night at Cider Riot we will toast to the many volunteers who succeeded in protecting our public water from Nestle, and we will welcome in Bark’s new Executive Director Rob Sadowsky.

We’d love to see you. It’s a dark time for many, so come bask in some good ‘ol community power. Since we got the Nestle news, I have heard many people's stories of their part of the grand nine-year effort – whether it was through writing a comment, having a conversation with a friend, showing up at a protest, going on a hike to see Oxbow Spring for yourself, or donating to support the cause – it all added up and we WON.

It’s important to take time to share stories, look into each other’s eyes and realize that we truly hold the power of barkers –the ones who cry out time and again until things are right.

    Event Details:

What: Celebration for defeating Nestle, welcoming Rob and toasting to our awesome community

When: Giving Tuesday, November 28th, 5-8pm

Where: Cider Riot, 807 NE Couch St

Food and drink: The cider bar is no-host and 10% of the night’s profit will go to Bark. The taco truck outside will be available for delicious Mexican food. Cider Riot and No Q'No! are great supporters of unions and community efforts so let’s support them, too!

Who: You, your kids (all ages), your friends.

What, reprise: an informal evening with games on the tables, Bark trivia, stories from the Nestle Campaign, Barker friends new and old, and the opportunity for making a year-end #GivingTuesday donation to Bark!

Screening of The Antifascists (With DJs After)

    Cider Riot, 807 NE Couch

RASH NW and the Red and Black Subculture Club present a Screening of The Antifascists:

In 2013 a group of armed nazis attacks a peaceful demonstration in Stockholm where several people are injured. In Greece the neo-nazi party Golden Dawn becomes the third largest in the election and in Malmö the activist Showan Shattak and his friends are attacked by a group of nazis with knives and he ends up in a coma.

In this portrait of the antifascists in Greece and Sweden we get to meet key figures that explain their view on their radical politics but also to question the level their own violence and militancy.. Following the film there will be a short discussion on the the questions this film raises and how it is important to the issues we face here today.

Before and after the film Barfly lifetime archiver DJ Keebler, DJ Dispissed and Soul Survivor will play the best of antifascist oi!, boss reggae and Soul.

The producers of this film are requesting donations for a political project they are currently working on.
