PDX: Let's Defund Tar Sands! (Greenpeace PNW) - advance RSVP

Join us for a presentation and discussion on Tar Sands to learn more about how Greenpeace USA’s is campaigning against JPMorgan Chase for their financing of four tar sands pipelines. We are calling on them to refuse to participate or underwrite any financial agreements or loans which facilitate the construction or expansion of tar sand pipelines.

PLEASE REGISTER: we will review the project, discuss how we can show solidarity, and how our collective people-power can put pressure on Chase and other financial institutions to divest!

We stand behind Indigenous communities and First Nations that are leading the fight to stop to block the pipeline construction that would carry toxic Tar Sands. Over 120 First Nations across Canada and the U.S. have signed the Treaty Alliance Against Tar Sands Expansion.

RSVP today! Enjoy a pizza dinner, snacks, and refreshments on us, so please be sure to register!

    • WHAT: Defund Tar Sands Launch! Presentation & Discussion
    • WHEN: Wednesday, October 25th, 7:30 PM- 9:00 PM (social at 7:00 PM)
    • WHERE: 2249 E Burnside Street, Portland 97214

So what does Chase have to do with tar sands?

While there are many banks financing these dirty tar sands pipelines, JPMorgan Chase is especially entangled here in the United States. JPMorgan Chase (JPMC) has participated in 11 of the 18 current lines of credit to the three pipeline companies. Not only that, JPMorgan Chase acted as a lead agent in 3 of those deals. Lead agent banks play a crucial role in making these loans happen. They essentially use their size, power, and influence to help ensure the deal is a success.

While all fossil fuel pipelines are a threat to the climate and our communities, Chase is currently funding the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline. This pipeline that will run through the Northwest and impact all of its people.

P.S. We need your energy and activism to stop Tar Sands! RSVP today so that we know you’re coming!
