Revolution Comedy Presents: Stand Up to Literally Save the World

Revolution Comedy is a monthly fundraiser series fueled by the power of stand up comedy and hosted by Portland's funniest rabble rouser, Andie Main!

Ok friends buckle up, this last news cycle has been beyond tragic. In Oregon we lost The Gorge, In Puerto Rico they lost everything, and in Las Vegas people lost even more. I was torn about how to approach my show this month, so I've decided to try something new and support three different causes all at once. You can chose who to donate to at our show, and how much.

We normally charge $15 for the show and support our amazing causes in the cost of that ticket, but we will be able to get your cash to work faster by giving directly to the source via Donation Stations, and you can chose to help however you see fit with these featured organizations:

If you are super stressed about The Gorge and habitat restoration, why don't ya donate to EarthShare Oregon? Throughout Oregon and southwest Washington, EarthShare Oregon has engaged thousands of people and raised millions of dollars to support Oregon’s environmental legacy of clean water, fresh food, sustainable communities, healthy families, and access to nature.

If you want to donate to Puerto Rico we will be collecting for funds for American Black Cross. The American Black Cross (ABC) is a grassroots organization of volunteers that directly engages in rescues, provides relief and actively rebuilds communities in distress.

Or if you'd like to donate to help the victims of the tragedy in Las Vegas, we will be also be accepting donations for their GoFundMe

We also appreciate you bringing tips to support the artists who are donating their time to perform for you and oh my god do we have a dynamic line up for you to feast on! We've got headliner Susan Rice, with support from Cori Lucas, Dan Weber and more surprises to come!

Curious Comedy Theater is located at 5225 NE MLK

Doors at 6:00, show starts at 7:00, and ends by 8:30pm

All ages! Wheelchair accessible! Gender neutral bathrooms!

Subject matter may be offensive to certain people, but we never tolerate hate speech.

Disability Art and Culture Project's An Evening of Comedy

    Curious Comedy Theater

The Disability Art and Culture Project (DACP) invites you to attend our upcoming fundraiser!

Advance Tickets: $30, available now through Eventbrite! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/an-evening-of-comedy-featuring-nina-g-tickets-37469773100

Admission is $35 at the door, so make to sure to get your tickets early.

DACP will bring Nina G, the San Francisco Bay Area's favorite female stuttering stand up comedian (granted she is the only one), to Portland for an evening of comedy, and a silent auction!

'Nina G has been challenging attitudes about Disability since she did stand-up for the first time in 2010. “How many people with Disabilities does it take to screw in a light bulb?” Answer: “One to screw it in and 5 able bodied people to say 'You are such an inspiration!"' (Branch). She brings her humor to help people confront and understand social justice issues such as disability, diversity, and equity.

Our fundraiser will support the second biennial Portland ReelAbilities Disability Film Festival. Founded in 2007, ReelAbilities is dedicated to sharing the stories, lives and art of people with disabilities. It consists of award-winning films of the highest cinematic and artistic quality and is hosted in cities across the country. We are excited to bring these films back to Portland in the spring of 2018!

In addition to being a stand up comedian, Nina is also a disability activist, storyteller, children's book author and educator. Learn more about Nina G WWW.NinaGcomedian.com, her one person show: Going Beyond Inspirational, or purchase Nina's book: Once Upon An Accommodation: A Book About Learning Disabilities

“An Evening of Comedy” Featuring Nina G is made possible by the Northwest Health Foundation.

Revolution Comedy Presents: Stand Up to Literally Impeach Trump, a benefit for SwingLeft.org

The day I write this is the same one Trump tweeted an attack on the trans community, in the same week he turned a boyscout jamboree into the creepiest indoctination rally and the same month his idiot son has proven collusion with Russia, and at this moment the republican congress and senate show no signs of ending this nightmare, so let's vote 'em out!

Our benefit this month is for SwingLeft.org, which is dedicated to winning the house and senate for democrats in 2018, and is our best chance of starting the impeachment process. By donating to SwingLeft we are directly taking action that will lowkey save the planet from this profoundly stupid orange menace.

We have an stacked line up featuring an opening musical set by Emily Overstreet of Bitch'n, jokes by Katie Nguyen, Jason Treager, Steven Wilber, Chris Johnson and Kirsten Kuppenbender plus words spoken by Gregory McKelvey, who you may know as being essential voice in Portland's resistance movement.

In order to comply with fundraising regulations, we will be taking donations a little differently. The ticket price of $6 reserves your seat and goes towards Curious Comedy Theater. We will have donation booths set up for you to run your credit card and donate directly to swingleft.org, or you can just show us a screenshot of your donation.

We are also doing a raffle, with sponsors including Sizzlepie and Paydirt (the bar that went viral after offering free whiskey for life upon punching Steve Bannon in the face) and more to be announced.

So tell your friends and cmon out for some amazing art! Let's pack the joint to the rafters and impeach the motherfucker already.

Also, we appreciate you bringing tips to support the artists donating their time to perform for you.

SOLD OUT! Voices 2017: Nothing About Us Without Us

    Curious Comedy Theater

    This event is SOLD OUT

About the theme: inspired by the activism of advocates in the community of people with disabilities, "Nothing About Us Without Us" represents that OPAL pushes for self-determination and inclusion of all people in the policies which affect us - low income people, people of color, people with disabilities and more. All OPAL, BRU, and YEJA campaigns are led by highly-impacted people, and the leadership of people with disabilities in Bus Riders Unite also inspired us to choose this theme.

Every year, OPAL hosts Voices of the People’s History, an event that celebrates diverse movement leaders by sharing their stories, in their own words. Members of our community perform readings of notable speeches and essays from inspiring figures past and present, a radically-empowering opportunity to hear the echoes of history in the present day. It’s a yearly gathering that brings us closer together while strengthening our resolve to fight for racial, social and economic justice. It’s important for us to amplify movement leaders, because we know that nobody else can tell our stories. We have to do this for ourselves.

Through Voices, we emphasize that our struggles are a continuation of past struggles – and justice has always had champions. All modern organizers stand on the shoulders of the giants whose words and voices we celebrate.

The 2017 Voices event returns the Curious Comedy Theater on the evening of July 11th. Curious Comedy Theatre, located in heart of Vanport Square, is accessible by public transportation via buses #6, 44, 72, and is wheelchair accessible. Parking is available at no charge behind Vanport Square. Bike parking is available outside of the theatre doors and outside Old Town Pizza around the corner. Curious Comedy is an all-ages venue, but tickets are required for children who need to sit in their own seat.

The hosted hors d’oeuvres will feature tasty and filling selections for most dietary needs: gluten free, vegetarian/vegan. Please let us know in advance of any considerations which you may need to make your evening enjoyable and comfortable with us!

Tickets go on sale April 19th, and will sell out well in advance of the event. Mark your calendars!

Sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information call Shawn at 503 774 4503 or email shawn@opalpdx.org

Accessibility: Curious Comedy Theater is ADA accessible on the ground floor including the bathroom.

OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon - OPAL is a community organizing & advocacy organization working with low-income & communities of color to educate, engage & empower.

Bus Riders Unite, a project of OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon, is a membership organization that represents transit-dependent people. When we rely on public transit, we’re likely also reliant upon availability of housing choices, alternative transit options (like bike and pedestrian infrastructure), and to have less access to green spaces. Transportation is at the center of our lives, connecting us to the places where we live, work, learn, pray and play. BRU doesn’t only address transportation, but rather brings the perspective of transit-dependent people to the decision-making that affects all matter of policy related to the built environment.

Youth Environmental Justice Alliance (YEJA) develops low-income youth and youth of color leaders through political education, campaign organizing, and skill-building to address issues of Environmental Justice. The leadership program creates a space for marginalized youth to take action on the issues that directly impact them and their communities.
