    JAIL NO: Demand Decriminalized TriMet

TriMet is now committed to a budget of $11M for a new police station and added fare enforcement. This militarization threatens Portland's communities of color, invests in continuing disproportionate enforcement, and drains resources we could be using to improve the system: lower fares, frequent service, improved bus stops, and more.

These out of touch decisions come from TriMet's management, and a Board of Directors who don't hold them accountable. The results are unjust.

Riders have a clear vision of a just transportation system : - Community participatory budgeting to stop these disastrous policies and projects before Trimet commits public money! - Reduced fares for low income people as a FUNDED priority! - Service improvements BEFORE further criminalization! - Work with communities of color to develop forward thinking policies on fare enforcement (end abuse of IPT and unequal exclusion of black riders!), police (less police! No weapons! Community policing!), and ICE (no ICE! Sanctuary system!) on buses and trains.

RSVP HERE TO SHOW UP IN NUMBERS Contact Orlando at (503) 774-4504 or email Orlando@opalpdx.org to testify or coordinate action

We CAN transition our transportation system to community-defined justice!

  • No Transit Jail Meditation

OPAL is organizing a protest against the $11M Trimet Transit Jail that would criminalize poverty by jailing people for not paying fares on Trimet. Buddhist Peace Fellowship of Portland will support this action with a meditation in conjunction with the protest, led by Kelly Angelica.
