Psychedelic Psynema XII: Darktown Strutters/Tommy

Always FREE. Come watch two bizarre rock operas. You get extra points if you can explain Tommy to me.

6pm Darktown Strutters (1975)--it's a funk opera, it's a blaxploitation film, it's a biker movie, it's a feminist treatise, the costumes rock, and the violence is all slapstick. What more could you ask for? Quite possibly the perfect film.

8pm Tommy (1975)--The Who wrote Tommy in 1969, but it was only released in album form for the first six years of its life, until Ken Russel came along and turned it into this beautifully disjointed glam rock/Art Deco gem. All-star cast features not only members of the band but also Ann-Margaret, Tina Turner, Elton John, and Jack Nicholson. No, Jack Nicholson can't sing well. Yes, Elton John wears a costume to make it look like his legs and feet are like three times bigger than they should be. You have to check it out.
