Wisdom of the Elders, a Portland cultural organization, records and preserves the history and arts — music, dance, storytelling and traditional arts — of exemplary Native Americans and shares them through a variety of multimedia productions and public events throughout the region. We are pleased to co-present with Wisdom of the Elders and the North West Film Center a special Native Wisdom Films Festival featuring four recently produced films through their Climate and Native Wisdom Films project, which explores the impact of environmental change on the cultural and economic lives of Native peoples in the Northwest. Accompanying the films is a selection of shorts made by students in Wisdom’s Native Film Academy.

Doors open at 1:00 pm

The first two films of the Alaskan Native Wisdom series from 2014 and 2016 and shorts by Ericha Casey and Devin Bruno run from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.

At 3:30 pm there will be an hour long intermission with food and music.

The second two films of the Native Wisdom series that was shot and produced in the peast yera and shorts by Tiyana Casey and Meadow Wheaton will run from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.

At 6:00 pm there will be time for a short Q&A regarding the films with the director and some of the producers present.

The Whitsell Auditorium is located at 1219 SW Park Avenue, Portland (97201) —entrance to through the Museum’s Hoffman Lobby entrance off the outdoor sculpture court.

The Native Wisdom Film series is funded by the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation, Oregon Cultural Trust, Regional Arts and Culture Council and Coquille Indian Foundation.
