It's DV Awareness month !

Domestic Violence (DV) 101 offers an introduction to the underlying root causes of violence against women and gender-based violence and increases understanding of the many forms of DV and how to respond.

We will define and discuss sexism and misogyny & explore the history of the movement to end violence against women. Looking broadly at the types & general dynamics of violence against women, we will learn about domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and sexual assault. Then we will hone in on domestic violence specifically & discuss the role of an advocate in supporting survivors of abuse.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Learn about the history and root causes of violence against women
  • Explore gender roles, sexism, patriarchy and misogyny in relation to violence against women
  • Discuss the importance of prevention and social change
  • Define domestic violence and understand both types and dynamics
  • Define advocacy and discuss the role of the advocate
