Protect farms and important salmon habitat: Port Westward rezone

Columbia County Courthouse, St. Helens
230 The Strand
St. Helens, Oregon 97051, USA (map)

WHAT: Port Westward rezone.
NEW deliberation date 10/4.

(On 9/13, the board of county commissioners decided to delay deliberations, reopen the record for the newly submitted supplemental staff report.)

Now is your last chance to team up with farmers to fight a controversial effort to open over 800 acres of high-quality farmland along the Columbia River for industrial development, including methanol export and oil-by-rail terminals. While no public testimony will be accepted at the meeting, a packed room is important.

WHO: Columbia County Commissioners are expected to deliberate and vote on the Port Westward rezone. In August, impacted farmers and community members testified before the county commissioners, describing how the rezone would harm farms and quality of life. The Port of St. Helens admitted that methanol export and oil-by-rail terminals are potential candidates for the high-quality farmland threatened by the rezone. Trading high-value agricultural land for fossil fuel expansion is the wrong direction for Oregon.

WHEN: Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at 10:00 AM.

WHERE: Columbia County Courthouse located at 230 Strand Street, St. Helens, OR 97051.
