Please plan to attend a Jewish Voice for Peace panel discussion on “Why Does the United States Support Israel?” Panelists include Palestinian activist Layla Abdel-Jawad, a member of Students United for Palestinian Equal Rights; Joel Beinin, professor of Middle East History at Stanford University; Palestinian activist Wael Elasady, founder of Students United for Palestinian Equal Rights at Portland State University, a former co-host of One Land Many Voices, and a member of the International Socialist Organization; and Maya Rotem, a Jewish Israeli activist with Anarchists Against the Wall.

The forum hopes to address a number of issues, such as the role of the Israel Lobby in shaping U.S. policy, the role of the military-industrial complex and the national security establishment, and how Palestine solidarity activists can counter these forces.

Co-sponsored by the Democratic Socialists of America, International Socialist Organization (ISO), Unitarian Universalists for Justice in the Middle East, Friends of Sabeel North America, KBOO Community Radio, Occupation-Free Portland, United Church of Christ Central Pacific Conference Palestine Israel Network, Portland Fellowship of Reconciliation, and Chapter 72, Veterans for Peace.
