2nd Annual PCC DREAMers Fundraising Gala
PCC Rock Creek, 17705 NW Springville Rd

Portland Community College is committed to providing a welcoming environment that supports, retains, and empowers a diverse student body. While at PCC, our students achieve academic excellence and become brave leaders who challenge and dismantle systems of oppression within our communities.

This December, the Board of Directors at Portland Community College voted to become a sanctuary college. The DREAMers Gala plays a critical role in our status as a sanctuary college and our commitment to access and opportunity for all students. We are committed to partnering with organizations that share our interest in supporting the PCC DREAMers Scholarship Fund.

During our 2016 inaugural PCC DREAMers Gala, we were able to raise $25,000 thanks to last year’s DREAMer supporters. Because of the generosity of organizations like yours and a partnership with The Institute for Mexicans Living Abroad Scholarship Program, we funded a mentorship program and awarded scholarships to 10 PCC undocumented students.

Our PCC DREAMers Gala is now an annual event aiming to support undocumented and DACAmented students attending PCC. This year we hope to receive greater support from our community and raise $35,000 in scholarship donations!

We can't do this alone, we need your support!

PCC DREAMers Gala Saturday, April 29, 2017 6-9 p.m. Portland Community College | Rock Creek Campus 17705 NW Springville Rd, Portland

Support current and future undocumented students by purchasing a table or individual ticket to attend the 2nd Annual PCC DREAMers Fundraising Gala

Phone Bank for the Dream Act
Oregon AFL-CIO, 3645 SE 32nd

Join us this Oct. 5th, a national day of action, for a phone bank to support the Dream Act! We will ask residents of Congressman Walden's district to contact him and ask for a clean Dream Act bill.

Congressman Walden is the only Oregon representative who has not expressed his public support for the Dream Act.

Passing the Dream Act is urgent. Once October 5th passes, no one will be able to apply for DACA again. Thousands of DACistas won't have the chance to re-enroll and will be without protection from deportation, a work permit, and driver license after their DACA expires.

Congress must take immediate action to pass the Dream Act, a permanent solution for over 800,000 undocumented young people.

On July 12, 2017, news broke that John Kelly, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security deflected responsibility for the fate of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA) and Temporary Protective Status (TPS) which, combined, protect over one million people from deportation.

In a meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Kelly told Members of Congress that the fate of the DACA and TPS programs were in the hands of white nationalist Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Right wing state politicians have given the Trump Administration until September 5th to end the DACA program.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and officials from nine other states on Thursday urged the Trump administration to end a program that’s allowed hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants to work in the country without fear of being deported.

Vancouver DACA Rally
Esther Short Park, Vancouver

SW LULAC and our FCRC rep Diana Avalos-Leos organized a save DACA rally at Ester Short park at 6 pm on Weds, August 30th.

Students under the protection of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals are holding their collective breath and hoping that DACA survives the current administration. They need this protection to have jobs, they need this protection to get financial aid for college. As educators, we know how important DACA is. When students have their status in jeopardy, it is much more difficult to engage them in school and get them invested in academia. Why give 100% in class when your entire future in this country is in jeopardy? We need to take action and raise our voice in defense of DACA. Governor Inslee signed in the REAL Hope Act (WA version of Dream Act) five years ago and some of my Dreamer students were able to meet with him and be present at the signing of the legislation.

Inslee wrote a great article that was picked up by CNN, here it is:
