Jade International Night Market - 1st Night
PCC SE, 2305 SE 82nd at Division

The Jade International Night Market is a crucial tool to help support local small businesses in the Jade District neighborhood. The annual summer event provides a space to celebrate and recognize the diversity and culture of the communities who live and work in the Jade District and sheds light on the issues impacting a neighborhood in transition.

The Jade International Night Market takes place every year and provides a unique cultural event that reflects the diversity of the Jade District communities. We envision an event that supports and roots the Jade District community in place, while providing an opportunity for community members and businesses to benefit economically from the event.

Last year, the Jade International Night Market brought over 25,000 visitors to Southeast 82nd Ave each weekend to participate in a community-driven event in an area that is historically underserved. The Jade District is centered around Southeast 82nd Avenue and Division Street. The goal of the Jade District is to build social and economic capacity, while mitigating displacement in the face of gentrification pressures.

Come and enjoy authentic international cuisine, family friendly entertainment, a beer garden, and various activities.

Transportation: Free parking; plenty of space for bikes and served by the Division MAX Station and Trimet Bus Routes 4 and 72

Renters' Rights at Jade Market
PCC SE, 2305 SE 82nd at Division

Did you know that nearly half of Asian Americans are renters?

Even though Asians have the highest levels of education and employment, homeownership levels do not represent those efforts.

Renters in the Jade District see massive amounts of rent hikes and displacement generally, and as more low-income tenants are pushed further out, they're less likely to have the protections offered exclusively within Portland city limits at this time.

Come to The Community Alliance of Tenants booth (#228) at the Jade District Night Market on August 19 and August 26 to play games, learn your rights, and meet other renters.

We'll be answering your questions, blasting sweet tunes, and serving up snacks to get you going.

For the August 19th event go here! https://www.facebook.com/events/103082583683307

Join us for the fourth annual Jade International Night Market, where Portland's multicultural communities come out in full force each August to celebrate one of East Portland's biggest events! Last year over 20,000 people came out to support local small businesses, community organizations, cultural groups, and our anti-displacement efforts.

This year, the Jade International Night Market runs on two Saturdays: August 19th, and August 26th. Come to one of both to enjoy international cuisine from local businesses, cultural performances, and a celebration and recognition of the vibrant community that resides in the Jade District neighborhood and East Portland.

Portland Twins - Homowo Festival
Sunnyside School Park

The Second Annual Twins Festival is coming this September, 2017, in Portland, Oregon! Come celebrate with music, food, dancing, performance and activities.

This is a special occasion celebrated each year by the Ga people of Ghana, West Africa to honor twins and fertility. In this culture, twins have names assigned to them, "Akewle" and "Akuokor" for females, and "Oko" and "Ate" for males. This way, anyone who meets a twin will immediately know it, based on the name. Twins are considered messengers from God and are thereby cherished by their families and community. During the festival, a special mixture of yams, palm oil, and eggs is shared. This mixture, known as "Ottor," is believed to induce fertility with the hopes of having more twins.
