350pdx Washington County Monthly Get Together
First Congregational Church United Church of Christ, Hillsboro

Hello Earth Guardians of Washington County,

You are invited to our December meeting at 6:30pm next Tuesday, December 12th at the First Congregational United Church of Christ 494 E. Main St., Hillsboro, OR 97123.

For our meeting regulars, the church has an alternate priority for our usual room that evening, so for this one meeting, we will be in a different church location, in the next building. Same outside entry, but door will be opposite our usual door. There will be signs!

We've identified a number of great projects for 2018, including a free movie series, a campaign to mobilize local cities and towns toward meeting the Paris Accord goals of 100% green energy by 2050, a push to encourage local businesses toward divesting of plastic straws and non-biodegradable single use goods, and collaboration to host educational "plant for the planet" one-day academies and tree-planting events.

We chatted at the November meeting about something a bit seasonally social and festive in December, but we didn't pin down the concept.

So, how about this for an idea? Since we've talked several times about plant-based diet being an important tool in carbon reduction, how about we do a bit of a holiday cookie/snack exchange with either favorite (or for folks like me... experimental) vegan snacks and/or holiday cookies? I'm game to try something new, and I hope we might inspire each other. And we can share our recipes. Hot and cold apple cider for beverage.

No pressure to bring something - the food contribution is voluntary and for fun! If you don't have time or just aren't feeling into it, don't worry, just come on to share your ideas and energy at the meeting!

This UCC church location is convenient to MAX and with lots of parking. Please let me know if you have questions!

Sanctuary Everywhere Interfaith Vigil
Washington County Courthouse, Hillsboro

We are bringing Sanctuary to the Streets! Gather with us for an interfaith expression of solidarity with our immigrant and refugee community. Through prayer, song, testimony and ritual, our Washington County community will join together across nationality, language, class, race and creed in the fight against predatory ICE enforcement and all forms of injustice.

Why is this vigil taking place at the Washington County Courthouse?
Unmarked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been periodically targeting community members at the WA County. Courthouse. Our vigil seeks to bring awareness, accountability, and a stop towards ICE's preditory tactics in our community.

Co-hosted by: IMIrJ, Unite Oregon, and the Hillsboro Faith Alliance

Free 2-hour on-street parking is available. Also accessible by Max Blue Line (Hillsboro Central/SE 3rd TC MAX Station).

Organizado por: IMIrJ, Unite Oregon, and the Hillsboro Faith Alliance
