Keaton Otis Vigil
NE 6th & Halsey

Keaton Otis was a young Black man murdered by the Portland police over six years ago, May 12, 2010. The police admitted they stopped him for "looking like a gangster". They shot him 23 times after tazing him while he sat in the driver's seat. Later police said Keaton had a gun, but have yet to produce it.

Keaton's father Fred Bryant held a monthly vigil on the 12 of every month since his son's murder on the spot where Keaton's life was taken. Fred Bryant did this for over three years, fighting for justice for his son, every single month in the rain, the dark, the heat, the snow. Fred Bryant passed away October 29, 2013.

His family and community have committed to continuing the vigils every month on the 12th, until justice is achieved for Keaton, for Fred, for our whole community.

Please join that struggle this month and help to spread the word.

Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition Caravan to the ICE out of NORCOR vigil
Ascension Catholic Church, 743 SE 76th

I expect the start and end times are not correct - I'll update this once we have some input from PIRC

Join PIRC members and friends to go to The Dalles to stand together in vigil with the Gorge ICE Resistance to say to NORCOR prison "ICE OUT OF NORCOR" .

9:45 AM: Meet up in SE Portland at Ascension Catholic Church parking lot (743 SE 76th Ave) to leave at 10 AM Carpools will go from there to NORCOR Prison in The Dalles: 201 Webber St, The Dalles, OR 97058

2 Noon to 1:00 PM: Rally in front of NORCOR.

NORCOR is publicly owned detention facility. It is funded through 4 counties. As a way to increase revenue, NORCOR leases beds to ICE for immigrants in detention. This is in violation of the OR Sanctuary Law which states that OR state resources should not be used to support or aid Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities.

Immigrant detainees report the conditions at NORCOR are terrible. They have held 2 hunger strikes to get basic privileges such as milk, hot meals, blankets for the cold temperatures inside the facility, shoes (they are only issued sandals), family visits (currently denied to immigrant detainees), and prompt health care. The prison has only granted minimal improvements in conditions and not acted in good faith to promises made.

Every day of the week, the Gorge ICE Resistance holds a vigil to say ICE OUT OF NORCOR. Let's join them to support the call for IMMIGRANT JUSTICE--NO IMMIGRANT PRISONS. ICE OUT OF NORCOR.

Get ICE out of Norcor! #IceResistanceRally - *new place*
Fred Meyer Fuel Center, the Dalles

Rally on the corner of W 6th Street and Cherry Heights Road to raise awareness and show solidarity with immigrants held by ICE who are suffering poor conditions in NORCOR, our local jail.

Join us for an #IceResistanceRally as we stand strong against NORCOR! We are gathering folks from all over Oregon and Washington to show NORCOR that we do not approve of the private Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) contract they currently hold as it does not reflect the values of the communities they are representing and NORCOR is not set up to be able to provide appropriate services for detainees in the first place.

Immigrant detainees being held here under the contract with ICE have been charged with federal immigration violations which are a civil matter, not criminal. We believe this is in violation of state law (OR 181A.820) and we support the lawsuit filed recently on behalf of local taxpayers which asks an Oregon judge to order NORCOR to end its contract and enjoin NORCOR from entering into similar contracts going forward. We want to see our local officials take a stand and protect all of our friends and neighbors as well as transparency and accountability from NORCOR as they work for us, the public.

We have lots of signs, flags and a couple of banners to share or feel free to bring your own!

Veterans First! No More 22 - RALLY at the Capitol!
Oregon State Capitol

Veterans and active duty service members deserve adequate access to mental health care. While veterans only make up 10 percent of Oregon’s population, they make up nearly a quarter of all suicides. We are in the midst of a crisis, yet veterans are continually and consistently ignored.

It’s time to put veterans first. Senate Bill 1054 would temporarily waive a costly and time intensive roadblock that the Oregon Health Authority requires for all new psychiatric facilities. This requirement – obtaining a Certificate of Need – is just another roadblock that veterans must hurdle in order to receive the care they need.

Join us in supporting SB 1054 and let our elected officials know that veterans don’t need another barrier that prevents them from getting help – they need our support. Rally around veterans at the Capitol and make sure our voices are heard!

We welcome you and your family to stand up for the veteran community and hear from those that agree it’s time to put veterans first.

Bring your signs and energy to support Senate Bill 1054 and let’s make sure the Oregon Legislature knows it’s time to prioritize our veteran community!

For more information on the bill and how it will help our veteran and military community, see this op-ed written by Senator Brian Boquist: http://www.oregonlive.com/opinion/index.ssf/2017/05/oha_for_holding_hostages_colle.html

Keeping Our Promise PAC is a bi-partisan effort dedicated towards getting 5% of the net proceeds of the Oregon Lottery dedicated to veterans programs and services. Help us reach the ballot and ensure Oregon veterans know we're grateful for their service.

Rally for Wages and Fairness
Chapman Square

It is so important that YOU, your coworkers, and your family join us in the park on Wednesday, July 19th at 4:30 pm for a rally. If we can get 1000 DCTU members in the park, we can push hard on the City the next day to settle this contract!!

We're union members, so we can't go to the boss to ask for a raise, that's just not the way it works in a union shop. Showing up for this rally, taking an hour or two off work, coming in if it's your day off, is the union equivalent of having a meeting with your boss to ask for a raise.

This is the first time in a long time there has been money on the table, but we have to fight for it! They same few voices at the table week after week won't convince the City. Swarming outside the offices of BHR will prove you actually care and are NOT content with your current lot.

There is a reason the City has kept a lid on their non-rep class-comp results. Whatever we don't pry from their fingers will probably just go to non-rep and management raises.

Come lift your voices and fight to be recognized at the employees of choice you really are!

Dying for Health Care Rally / March --lives are on the line
Rep. Jaime Herrera-Beutler's Office, Vancouver

Join the Women's March call to action!

We’re hitting the streets to protect health care. We'll start at the office of Rep. Jaime Herrera-Beutler with a brief rally, then march to the Vancouver Farmer's Market. If clearance is obtained, we will stage a die-in along the designated free speech area of the market.

Congress is working to take away health coverage from 22 million Americans by repealing Obamacare. It will hurt everyone by stealing insurance, but women, transgender people, and marginalized communities will be hit the hardest. Republicans will soon vote on dropping coverage for mothers, people with disabilities, working families, and anyone who is vulnerable.

Although our protests scared them away from voting this week, Senate Republicans have been vowing to destroy Obamacare for years and they will be back!

On Saturday, July 29th, all across the country, hundreds of thousands of people will tell Senators NO to this attack on women, our families and our communities.

March for Freedom, Solidarity and Justice
Battleship Oregon Memorial Marine Park

[endorsing organizations below]

On June 4th, Portland Stands United Against Hate, with the endorsement of 70+ community, faith, labor, and student organizations, peacefully rallied at City Hall with over 1,500 concerned residents to send a message to far right bigots, who were staging a “Trump Free Speech” rally across the street.

Although we successfully confronted their hatred on June 4th, the same group subsequently provoked violence at Portland’s June 17 Trans Pride march and staged a violent “Freedom March” on June 30th. This is not an isolated group. Rather, they represent an emboldening of the right-wing across this country, whose rhetoric and actions have been supported by an openly racist, misogynist, bigoted administration in the White House.

On Sunday, August 6th, these same extremists are staging a “Freedom March” on the waterfront at the Salmon Street fountain. Though they have softened their rhetoric, make no mistake, their plan is to instill fear and attack Portland’s Immigrant, Muslim, Jewish, Indigenous, Black and LGBTQ+ communities.

We are gathering in solidarity with communities who are under attack and calling on activists and concerned residents to join a peaceful mass mobilization on the Portland waterfront, in front of the Battleship Oregon Memorial (SW Pine) on Sunday, August 6th at 1:30 pm. We must continue to show up to prove that Portland stands united and will not tolerate white nationalism in any of its guises.

NO BAN! NO WALL!
Portland International Airport

Donald Trump's new travel ban is in affect.

This ban means people from 6 Muslim majority country's will not be allowed into the US unless they have "close" business or family relationships, the ban describes family as parents, fiancés, spouses, children, son or daughter in law, siblings and step siblings but excludes grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws and grandchildren.

This ban is completely unnecessary, less than a quarter of terrorist attacks in the US are committed by people with Muslim backgrounds.

If we really wanted to keep terrorists out of this country we would ban white people.

Stand in solidarity with the people who will be banned from the US!

Start at the airport max stop.

Vigil & Speakout - Portland Solidarity with Charlottesville
Portland City Hall, 1221 SW 4th

This weekend, hate groups and domestic terrorists of all stripes went to Charlottesville, VA to push their hateful message of white nationalism, fascism, anti-Semitism, and bigotry.

When they got there they waged violence on unarmed anti-racists, killing several and injuring many others. We mourn for the lives that were lost, and we will honor all those under attack by congregating against hate in our own communities.

Tonight and tomorrow, across the nation, Indivisible groups, along with our friends at Portland Stands United Against Hate, Women’s March, Democracy for America, Working Families Party, Resist Here, Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Mi Familia Vota, OurRevolution, Million Hoodies Movement for Justice, People's Action, Courage Campaign, Greenpeace, #AllOfUs, #Resist, 350.org, OFA, United We Dream, Win Without War, Voto Latino, MoveOn.org, Sierra Club, Pantsuit Nation, Town Hall Project, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, iAmerica, National Immigration Law Center, #MarchForTruth, Color of Change, UltraViolet, IfNotNow, People Power, Faith in Public Life, CREDO, Center for American Progress Action Fund, Bend the Arc Jewish Action, Brand New Congress, South Asian Americans Leading Together, NARAL Pro-Choice America, RootsAction, SEIU, Hip Hop Caucus, International Socialist Organization and others will come together in solidarity with our brave friends in Charlottesville who put themselves at risk to fight against white supremacy.

From Portland to Charlottesville: We Will Not Back Down
Multnomah County Justice Center

We will not participate in the further normalization of racist and fascist ideologies.

We will not allow the criminalization of those who defend themselves and their communities from acts of violence and hate speech.

We will not accept a police force that actively favors and collaborates with white supremacists and fascist organizations.

We will not settle for a criminal punishment system that continues to target the oppressed.

Come show your solidarity with the June 4th protesters as they decline the state’s plea offer and request a jury trial. Fighting fascism is not a crime; it is a moral obligation.

Please gather peacefully outside of the JUSTICE CENTER at 8:30am.

We will not tolerate hate in our city.

We must stand against the rise of fascism and empower marginalized communities. This is Donald’s Trumps America. Is it yours? If not, join us to stand against hate. Let’s show the millions of people coming to Portland this weekend what we stand for.

Not One Penny, No tax cuts for millionaires! - Portland Rally & Pledge Signing
Edith Green – Wendell Wyatt Federal Building

Join us on August 19th as we draw a line in the sand: #NotOnePenny in tax cuts for millionaires, billionaires, and wealthy corporations. We've had enough!

The recent healthcare repeal efforts were hiding huge tax cuts to ultra-wealthy people and corporations. Upcoming "tax reform" proposals contain the same kind of tricks. We need to keep fighting for working families, individuals, and small businesses.

Join us in front of the Federal Building in downtown Portland to learn more about the nationwide, nonpartisan Not One Penny campaign, hear from impassioned speakers, and sign the Not One Penny People's Pledge.

We need you to help us hold our Congress accountable. We expect them to vote against tax cuts that hurt the middle class, and we will hold them accountable at the ballot box if they side with wealthy corporations over our friends, relatives, and neighbors.

Together, we will defeat plans to manipulate the tax code to benefit the ultra rich at the expense of working families, individuals, and small businesses.

Tax March PDX

Stop Police Brutality: Am I Next?
Terry Schrunk Plaza

A little introduction about me and my work. I'm a survivor of police brutality more than few times. I moved to Portland in 2010. I have lived in many major cities but its my first time in my life I feel at home, right here in Portland. 2012 was when my world was shot in hell from police I decided to sue the city of Portland. 2013, I won a settlement with a new policy I asked the city to sign. A policy focusing on proper procedures for police when interacting with deaf civilians in case of a crime (accused of a crime, victim of a crime or a witness of a crime). Because of the lawsuit, I decided to give up my 20 years career as makeup artist/hair stylist and pursue in politics. 2013, I became a commissioner for Portland Commission on Disability.

Last year, I pushed for a bill to be passed and it passed! Captions are now required to be turned on all the times in all public places in Portland! https://www.google.com/amp/www.kgw.com/amp/news/local/portland-now-requires-closed-captioning-on-all-tvs-in-bars-restaurants/5735241

Are you fucking kidding me? What a waste of time! What happens if a public place has tv on without captions? Fuck off PETTY TYRANT or do something USEFUL.

2017, I continue my second term with PCOD. I was recently appointed to be a liaison with our mayor on police and public safety.

2014, I got on board with Community Oversight Advisory Board and committees in Data System, Use of Force, Compliance and Accountability. We made 100 recommendations on policies. Sadly COAB expired last January according to the settlement. Ted Wheeler did not support COAB to continue after several pleas. My passion on police reform grew stronger.

Last January, I signed a 6 month contract with Department of Public Safety Standard Training. It was a great opportunity to educate new officers on interactions when communication barrier happens.

Now, I strive to do more. I want to push for change. I decided to try for city council in 2018.

For this event I'm hosting, I am representing myself as Philip, as a concerned citizen.

This is a peace protest event in recognizing our epidemic in America, especially here in Portland, Oregon where American civilians were/are being killed by the US Police. Not only that police brutality is increasing but police is not being held accountable. Yes, there ARE good cops, however, they STILL are under the representation of an oppressive system, so until that changes, the saying still remains today. We also must ask every police to recognize that racism run very deep in the police force. We ask every police to recognize that racism contributes to the killings.

I invite everybody to come and take a few minutes to hear/see/feel us out. There will be few other leaders who wish to say a few words as well. We will take the time to ask for a moment in silence while we name the names of civilians who were killed in cold blood by the police. Victims shall not be gone in vain. They shall be remembered.

After 7pm ish, we will lead the march around the SW area in downtown from Terry D Schrunk plaza and arrive back to Terry D Schrunk plaza which will be less than a mile. Details of exact streets where we will be marching will be announced at the Terry D. Schrunk Plaza.

This such visibility is needed to be made for all of us to be aware, especially every police department across the US. We are not here to ridicule but address the long ongoing issue of police brutality. We demand the police brutality to end. We demand change. We must work together so we can heal and be safe in our city. With this visibility, I strongly encourage every city in the US to do the same thing we are doing.

While we do realize this event is very sensitive. Emotions will be running high. We beg all of you to respect the property. Respect each other. Please do not resort to violence. Yes, we are angry together and yes, we can express our anger together in the most diplomatic way possible. We beg all of you to march in peace. We beg the police to allow us to do this so we can heal.

We beg you to please do not carry any weapons. We encourage you to carry signs without pickets or any sticks that could be used as weapons. Please feel free to express however you see fit. Examples: #Philando Castile. Stop police brutality. Am I next? Stuff like that. We ask all of you to wear black/red/grey clothing to show we are all together in this. Please feel free to bring candles and lit up as we take a moment in silence while we name the names of civilians who were killed by the police. No fireworks please.

Please feel free to share this event to your friends/family/colleagues/co-workers/lovers.... well, everybody! Your support in my event is greatly appreciated more than I can express. See you all there! And finally, the event is ASL interpreted!!

Rally in Solidarity For Charlottesville, VA!
Plaza del Sol, Rockwood

It's OUR turn Gresham: To stand in solidarity with the Charlottesville, VA community that experienced a series of attacks against the people of Charlottesville and many Anti-Racist organizations that opposed the Alt-Right coming into their city. Many people were seriously injured from attacks carried out by White Nationalists. On the 2nd day of the counter-protests after the first day was met with sheer violence provoked by the Alt-Right. When counter-protesters were marching a Dodge car barrles down at 80MPH mowing down dozens of people marching and confirmed somebody had died from the result of that incident. Many others were left bleeding in the streets and some had concussions. The driver was confirmed to be a known Neo-Nazi.

This is all too familiar sounding; Gresham has experienced an attack by the 188th Ave 7/11 store last year on the same month. Larnell Bruce was killed by a Neo-Nazi couple from the European Kindred prison-gang. He was run over in the 7/11 parking-lot and died as the result of his injuries. White Nationalists are now more empowered than ever to go around injuring and killing people that oppose their sick and inhumane ideology. We are seeing more and more violent attacks against people who want to defend their communities from White Nationalists that are organizing to terrorize our community and kill us.

Let's show the people of Charlottesville some love and that we are standing in solidarity with them while sending a message to Fascists that they are not welcome in our communities. We will remember Larnell Bruce & Heather who were both run over by Neo-Nazis and died because of it. If we do not actively take action and oppose white nationalists we are leaving our community vulnerable to being harmed by people that want all of us dead. It's important that we come together and protect one & another!

  • We will rally at Plaza Del Sol in Gresham, OR off of 187th Ave & SE Stark St. Just a block away from when Larnell Bruce was murdered. After the rally then we'll march afterwards! Cover your face.. It's highly recommended to protect your identity from Neo-Nazis, White Supremacists, and Fascists. Perferably, wear all black too! Mourn the dead -- but also fight like hell for the living!

  • Note: We may.. have a couple speakers, but we will update the event page for these details as we figure it out. Don't forget to bring signs, chalk, and flags!

On July 12, 2017, news broke that John Kelly, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security deflected responsibility for the fate of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA) and Temporary Protective Status (TPS) which, combined, protect over one million people from deportation.

In a meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Kelly told Members of Congress that the fate of the DACA and TPS programs were in the hands of white nationalist Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Right wing state politicians have given the Trump Administration until September 5th to end the DACA program.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and officials from nine other states on Thursday urged the Trump administration to end a program that’s allowed hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants to work in the country without fear of being deported.

Indivisible Greater Vancouver Speak Up/Speak Out on the Ridgefield Jefferson Davis neo-confederate monument
Fort Vancouver National Trust

Indivisible Greater Vancouver is asking its members to attend both the ACLU Rally outside the venue or the Clark County Heritage Commission monthly meeting inside the venue.

The main item on the commission's agenda is a discussion of whether to schedule a public hearing on the removal of a neo-confederate monument from the Clark County Historic Register. There is no historical significance to this monument with regard to Clark County. It has already been removed from public property in the City of Vancouver, but was resurrected by the Daughters of the Confederacy and is now being guarded by the neo-confederate group, the Sons of Confederate Soldiers.

There is a sign-up sheet for public comment at the hearing, but as this may be limited by time, we recommend you send something in writing in advance to the commission to ensure your voice is heard.

The Jefferson Davis Memorial Park neo-confederate's monument in the Ridgefield area (in unincorporated Clark County, visible from the I-5 southbound just south of Exit 14) is an affront to all citizens who believe in equality for all. The memorial is on private property so we citizens cannot force its removal, but we can request that it be removed from the Clark County's Historic Register. Its inclusion on the register is unconscionable given what this monument represents.

Please make your voice heard. Whether you come to the meeting or not, please submit your written comments to the commission. Indivisible Greater Vancouver members will be at the meeting and rally. For additional information or special accommodations, please call:

Rally/March Against White Nationalism
Terry Schrunk Plaza

Portland Stands United Against Hate will be mobilizing again to confront a white nationalist gathering in our town. We intend to draw out thousands to discourage these racists and haters.

Joey Gibson’s “Patriot Prayer” is mobilizing on September 10th a “Portland Freedom March — Entire Nation” featuring Billy Sessions, a Confederate monument defender, who has been active in violent clashes with those trying to remove these symbols of slavery and racism.

The merging of the “old South” rebellion with “alt-right” white nationalism is an ominous development. Their plan is to instill fear and attack Portland’s Immigrant, Muslim, Jewish, Indigenous, Black and LGBTQ+ communities.

After the rally we will be marching to the Salmon St. Fountain. We will be collaborating with Portland's Resistance and are in communication with Rose City Antifa. We are committed to community safety and protecting marginalized communities. Ours will be a disciplined and secure event.

October Conference: Confronting the Far Right

“Patriot” rallies are not an isolated phenomenon. Rather, they represent an emboldening of the right-wing across this country, whose rhetoric and actions have been supported by an openly racist, misogynist, bigoted administration in the White House.

PSUAH plans to host a day long conference to include expert education on the white nationalist movement with extensive time for local groups and activists to integrate that learning into coherent strategies for building the Portland left as well as fighting the Right.

Stay tuned for further details.

Stand Up! Community Defense Against Patriot Prayer!
Salmon Street Fountain

Local Alt Right demagogue, Joey Gibson, refuses to stop his organizing activities despite the recent tragedy in Charlottesville. At this stage there can be no doubt that no matter what lip service Gibson pays to being a nice guy full of "love", his actions demonstrate at best callous disregard, and at worst complete support for the violent impact of his rallies and those like it.

After our numerous articles exposing his white supremacist associates (rosecityantifa.org), and the opposition antifa have been consistently giving his hate fests, only a small circle of die hard bigots and zealots remain. We must keep up the pressure to stop them once and for all. This type of fascist aggitation in the current powder keg atmosphere in the US can only mean egregious harm to the most vulnerable people in our communities.

The Unite the Right event held in #Charlottesville, which culminated in the cold-blooded murder of #HeatherHeyer, featured speakers Gibson has invited here to Portland. There are numerous parallels between the the events Gibson orchestrates as Patriot Prayer and Unite the Right. The demographic attracted, the talking points used, and the political goals are in step with this larger pattern of rallies across the nation which have transformed from the lightly coded "free speech" and "pro-Trump" messaging to seig-heiling, torch-bearing spectacles of fascist intimidation.

The effect of such events has been radicalizing members of the right, increasing the organizing potential of overtly fascist and white supremacist groups and individuals, and providing an emotionally charged atmosphere which spurns fanatics to take their murderous fantasies from the web out into the real world.

This was true here in Portland where Jeremy Christian attended a Patriot Prayer event then stabbed three people-- murdering two of them--on a max train. While Gibson and his ilk have tried to distance themselves from this disgusting act, the fact remains Christian went from internet warrior to murderer after going to that rally.

There has not been a single Patriot Prayer rally in the Portland area which has not featured the presence and recruitment activities of overt fascists, white supremacists, and neo-nazis. The correlation between Joey Gibson's rallies and increased incidents of white supremacist harassment, violence, and murder is clear and direct. (http://rosecityantifa.org/articles/fundraiser-tally-august-6/)

Joey Gibson constantly issues cheap verbal declarations that white supremacists are not welcome at his rallies, but refuses to ever take any action that would prevent them from using his rallies as platforms for organizing violence against our communities. Ultimately words do not matter, actions do.

In the wake of the nazi violence and murder in Charlottesville, many in the United States are realizing that the threat presented by fascist alt-right organizing is very real, extremely deadly, and presently on the rise thanks in no small part to people like Joey Gibson, who has been facilitating such white supremacist fascist organizing in the Pacific Northwest for much of 2017.

Join Rose City Antifa as we stand against Joey Gibson's latest nazi-magnet rally and demand both accountability for, and immediate cessation of the murderous white supremacist organizing he is fostering.

September Keaton Otis Vigil

Oregon Recovers Rally For Recovery
Shemanski Park

WE CAN'T DO THIS ALONE! HELP US LAUNCH OREGON'S RECOVERY REVOLUTION ON 9.30.2017!

Join people in recovery, our friends and family, allied organizations and elected officals at a rally at Shemanski Park in Downtown Portland to unveil Oregon Recovers, a new statewide campaign to take Oregon from last to first in access and availability to addiction treatment and recovery services.

  • We now have over 60,000 drug overdose deaths annually in the United States.
  • The United Nations has labelled the U.S. as the #1 Drug Overdose Death country in the entire world, based on the number of deaths per capita.
  • Oregon is one the top 10 drug abusing states in America, and ranks 4th in the U.S. for illegal drug use.
  • Oregon ranks 45th in the U.S. (bottom of the barrel) for access to addiction services.

Stand up and be a voice for recovery. We need more addiction services, and less incarceration. We need more clean and sober recovery housing for people. We need more detox, addiction treatment, and peer services to reach out and give support to those who need addiction recovery.

HAVE YOU LOST SOMEONE TO ADDICTION? BRING AN OLD SHOE!

We are asking everyone who has lost someone to addiction to bring an old shoe that can be used to demonstrate to policy makers and the press the magnitude of the problem. Write their name on the shoe. We hope for a large pile of shoes in front of the speakers podium.

Protest Betsy DeVos at McMinnville High School
McMinnville High School

This Wednesday, it will be McMinnville's turn to show Betsy DeVos what we think of her proposals regarding our Public Education System. She will be visiting MHS at around 1pm on Wednesday. We will gather on the sidewalks by the school - meet on the West Side of Evans St, along the chainlink fence near the new soccer field.

"DeVos is a Michigan billionaire who has labored tirelessly for decades to promote school choice, or alternatives to traditional public schools, and is seen by critics as the most ideological and anti-public-education secretary in the more than 40 years of the department’s history."

In her 9 months in the position, DeVos has:

  • tapped the chief executive of a private student-loan company to run the federal government’s trillion-dollar financial aid operations.
  • backed the administration’s decision to rescind guidance from the Obama administration that was aimed at protecting the rights of transgender students and directed the department’s Office for Civil Rights to consider transgender students’ discrimination complaints on a case-by-case basis.
  • made clear that she believes men accused of sexual assault have been improperly treated by institutions of higher education, and need more rights of their own.
  • DeVos and Trump have advanced a pro-school-choice 2018 budget, which seeks broad funding cuts while pushing proposals to spend about $400 million to expand charter schools and vouchers for private and religious schools and an additional $1 billion to push public schools to adopt choice-friendly policies.

Stand Together with Yamhill County Workers
NE Evans & 5th, McMinnville

We are Yamhill County. We provide the vital services our community relies on, like public health, emergency management, and maintaining our parks and our roads. We are your family, your friends, and your neighbors and we are standing together for a fair contract.

We’re asking for a fair contract. We are asking for fair wages to keep up with the rising cost of living in Oregon. We are asking for the County to make sure we are being compensated equally to comparable and surrounding counties in Oregon, and for the County to maintain our existing employee probation period practices. It’s about a fair return on our work which provides services for everyone here in Yamhill County.

Stand with us. Join us at a rally on Thursday, October 12 in McMinnville to call on Yamhill County to work with us and negotiate a fair contract so that we may continue to provide the services we all depend on. For more information on how you can help, please contact Bao Nguyen at bnguyen@oregonafscme.org.

Push Back on Trump For a Healthy River: Press Conference
Portland City Hall, 1221 SW 4th

Join this rally and press conference Thursday, October 19th, 11 am at Portland City Hall to tell the Trump administration and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that there is NO excuse to further delay, minimize, or compromise the cleanup of the Portland Harbor, and 11-mile EXTREMELY toxic stretch of the Willamette River.

Mothers and children have suffered far too long from exposure to the unhealthy fish.

Does this sound different from what you know about our inviting, swimmable river? It's the hidden side to our city.

Over 140 fortune-500 corporations, local businesses, and government agencies created this hazardous mess over the 100 plus years, and it continues to hover at the bottom of our river from the Broadway Bridge all the way to Sauvie Island.

  • If you care about having drinkable water after the big earthquake hits Portland...
  • If you care about Native American treaty rights...
  • If you care about everyone being able to eat safe, healthy catfish, carp or bass someday...
  • If you believe all local communities deserve the right to access green jobs....

Then this is what you must DEFEND and UPHOLD:

An ACCOUNTABLE and TIMELY cleanup of the Portland Harbor Superfund Site starting NOW. #OurRiver

Your Voice is Critical. Please come out Thursday.

In solidarity,

Portland Harbor Community Coalition

Faith Groups Caravan to NORCOR
Ascension Catholic Church, 743 SE 76th

On October 28, Buddhist Peace Fellowship, Portland will join IMIrJ and other faith groups to caravan out to NORCOR in The Dalles, a public penal facility co-opted by private prison business to incarcerate immigrants abducted by ICE.

Besides the obvious war against immigrants, conditions there do not even meet the requirements for regular prisons (which we know are not great to begin with).

If you expect to have any difficulties getting to the meetup location at SE 76th Avenue, please comment on the Facebook event page and we will do our best to arrange transport for you. You may bring your own signs or use the ones provided by Gorge ICE Resistance. Maila Davenport will coordinate who will actually drive and who will ride with whom.

Get ICE out of NORCOR! #IceResistanceRally
Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facilities (NORCOR), The Dalles
