Save DACA PDX Rally!
Edith Green – Wendell Wyatt Federal Building

#SaveDACAPDX

Milenio.org invite you to a RALLY TO SAVE DACA

  • Tuesday, September 5, 2017
  • Time: 5:00 p.m.
  • Place: Edith Green - Wendell Wyatt Federal Building located at 1220 SW 3rd Ave, Portland, OR 97204

We will gather at Terry Schrunk Plaza which is across the street of the Federal Building

On July 12, 2017, news broke that John Kelly, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security deflected responsibility for the fate of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA) and Temporary Protective Status (TPS) which, combined, protect over one million people from deportation.

In a meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Kelly told Members of Congress that the fate of the DACA and TPS programs were in the hands of white nationalist Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Right wing state politicians have given the Trump Administration until September 5th to end the DACA program.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and officials from nine other states on Thursday urged the Trump administration to end a program that’s allowed hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants to work in the country without fear of being deported.

March for Freedom, Solidarity and Justice
Battleship Oregon Memorial Marine Park

[endorsing organizations below]

On June 4th, Portland Stands United Against Hate, with the endorsement of 70+ community, faith, labor, and student organizations, peacefully rallied at City Hall with over 1,500 concerned residents to send a message to far right bigots, who were staging a “Trump Free Speech” rally across the street.

Although we successfully confronted their hatred on June 4th, the same group subsequently provoked violence at Portland’s June 17 Trans Pride march and staged a violent “Freedom March” on June 30th. This is not an isolated group. Rather, they represent an emboldening of the right-wing across this country, whose rhetoric and actions have been supported by an openly racist, misogynist, bigoted administration in the White House.

On Sunday, August 6th, these same extremists are staging a “Freedom March” on the waterfront at the Salmon Street fountain. Though they have softened their rhetoric, make no mistake, their plan is to instill fear and attack Portland’s Immigrant, Muslim, Jewish, Indigenous, Black and LGBTQ+ communities.

We are gathering in solidarity with communities who are under attack and calling on activists and concerned residents to join a peaceful mass mobilization on the Portland waterfront, in front of the Battleship Oregon Memorial (SW Pine) on Sunday, August 6th at 1:30 pm. We must continue to show up to prove that Portland stands united and will not tolerate white nationalism in any of its guises.

Dying for Health Care Rally / March --lives are on the line
Rep. Jaime Herrera-Beutler's Office, Vancouver

Join the Women's March call to action!

We’re hitting the streets to protect health care. We'll start at the office of Rep. Jaime Herrera-Beutler with a brief rally, then march to the Vancouver Farmer's Market. If clearance is obtained, we will stage a die-in along the designated free speech area of the market.

Congress is working to take away health coverage from 22 million Americans by repealing Obamacare. It will hurt everyone by stealing insurance, but women, transgender people, and marginalized communities will be hit the hardest. Republicans will soon vote on dropping coverage for mothers, people with disabilities, working families, and anyone who is vulnerable.

Although our protests scared them away from voting this week, Senate Republicans have been vowing to destroy Obamacare for years and they will be back!

On Saturday, July 29th, all across the country, hundreds of thousands of people will tell Senators NO to this attack on women, our families and our communities.

SWWAshingtonCAN - Born of the Women’s March and the Huddles that followed, we seek to promote change in our community through Education, Inspiration and Empowerment.

Veterans First! No More 22 - RALLY at the Capitol!
Oregon State Capitol

Veterans and active duty service members deserve adequate access to mental health care. While veterans only make up 10 percent of Oregon’s population, they make up nearly a quarter of all suicides. We are in the midst of a crisis, yet veterans are continually and consistently ignored.

It’s time to put veterans first. Senate Bill 1054 would temporarily waive a costly and time intensive roadblock that the Oregon Health Authority requires for all new psychiatric facilities. This requirement – obtaining a Certificate of Need – is just another roadblock that veterans must hurdle in order to receive the care they need.

Join us in supporting SB 1054 and let our elected officials know that veterans don’t need another barrier that prevents them from getting help – they need our support. Rally around veterans at the Capitol and make sure our voices are heard!

We welcome you and your family to stand up for the veteran community and hear from those that agree it’s time to put veterans first.

Bring your signs and energy to support Senate Bill 1054 and let’s make sure the Oregon Legislature knows it’s time to prioritize our veteran community!

For more information on the bill and how it will help our veteran and military community, see this op-ed written by Senator Brian Boquist: http://www.oregonlive.com/opinion/index.ssf/2017/05/oha_for_holding_hostages_colle.html

Keeping Our Promise PAC is a bi-partisan effort dedicated towards getting 5% of the net proceeds of the Oregon Lottery dedicated to veterans programs and services. Help us reach the ballot and ensure Oregon veterans know we're grateful for their service.

July Keaton Otis Vigil
NE 6th & Halsey

Details Keaton Otis was a young Black man murdered by the Portland police over six years ago, May 12, 2010. The police admitted they stopped him for "looking like a gangster". They shot him 23 times after tazing him while he sat in the driver's seat. Later police said Keaton had a gun, but have yet to produce it.

Keaton's father Fred Bryant held a monthly vigil on the 12 of every month since his son's murder on the spot where Keaton's life was taken. Fred Bryant did this for over three years, fighting for justice for his son, every single month in the rain, the dark, the heat, the snow. Fred Bryant passed away October 29, 2013.

His family and community have committed to continuing the vigils every month on the 12th, until justice is achieved for Keaton, for Fred, for our whole community.

Please join that struggle this month and help to spread the word.

Rally for Wages and Fairness
Chapman Square

It is so important that YOU, your coworkers, and your family join us in the park on Wednesday, July 19th at 4:30 pm for a rally. If we can get 1000 DCTU members in the park, we can push hard on the City the next day to settle this contract!!

We're union members, so we can't go to the boss to ask for a raise, that's just not the way it works in a union shop. Showing up for this rally, taking an hour or two off work, coming in if it's your day off, is the union equivalent of having a meeting with your boss to ask for a raise.

This is the first time in a long time there has been money on the table, but we have to fight for it! They same few voices at the table week after week won't convince the City. Swarming outside the offices of BHR will prove you actually care and are NOT content with your current lot.

There is a reason the City has kept a lid on their non-rep class-comp results. Whatever we don't pry from their fingers will probably just go to non-rep and management raises.

Come lift your voices and fight to be recognized at the employees of choice you really are!
